Summer School 2013
The best way to join the Bloco family is to come to Summer School.
Details
When: 5th - 16th August 2013
Who: Young people from London aged 14-25 years old
Where: Southbank Centre
How Much: £25 earlybird booking before 5th May £30 thereafter
At Bloco Summer School you will learn new skills or develop existing ones and join together with over 100 other young people to play music, steel pan, drum or dance, make costumes and put together a spectacular show that tours to events like Notting Hill Carnival and Thames Festival. In 2012 we led TeamGB at the Victory Parade for the end of the Olympics - so who knows what other performances will come our way!?
Once you have completed the school you are then a fully signed up member of the Bloco and you'll hopefully stay with us for the rest of the year...or forever! You can join Kinetika Bloco as a Drummer / Dancer / Brass-woowind or Steel Pan player.
Drumming
Our drums are samba drums and the Bateria (drum section) is at the centre of the Bloco, no previous experience is required to join this section, you just need to love it loud!
Brass-Woodwind players
We call this our brass section but it really means any wind instrument you can walk with, you need to have access to your own instrument, or borrow from your school, and you must be able to play the notes because we play as an ensemble, we don't provide individual tuition. No grades required.
Dance
To join our dance section you just need to be able to move and smile, previous experience is great if you have it, but we can also work with beginner dancers, as long as you're willing and able to move and wear a costume! This year we are also being joined by Trickers, Flippers and Tumblers so if you are in to that then get in touch!
Steel pan
We have places for 10 young people in this section. These pans are carried round the neck for performances. You must have previous pan experience.
Costume making
We all wear costumes and at some Schools you'll be involved in making parts of the costume.

Bloco Leadership Programme #2
Following the success of the Kinetika Bloco Leadership Programme in 2012 we are running the programme again this year and are looking for 20 young people to join us on this exciting leadership journey. We want to continue to develop young rounded leaders who can not only lead a dance or drumming workshop but can inspire other young people to better themselves socially, educationally, culturally and artistically.
Adie Shariff, a Performance Psychologist with over 17 years experience of personal and organisational development consultancy, will facilitate the programme.

Kick Off – 24th June - 6.00pm-9.00pm
Intensive Weekend – 20th-21st July – 10.00am-5pm
Peer Learning – 1st session – 27th August - 3 hour session
Speaker Series – 2nd September - 6.00pm-9.00pm
Speaker Series – 16th September - 6.00pm-9.00pm
Peer Learning – 2nd session – 4th November – 6.00pm-9.00pm
Finale – 16th November - 4.30pm-9.00pm
To apply for the programme you need to be 16-25 years old. Places are prioritised towards Bloco current or past members, but where possible we may be able to accommodate others.

One Big Band
On 16th February St Gabriel’s College with Kinetika Bloco presented: One Big Band. An extraordinary experience creating a big band in a day giving Year 5 and 6's the opportunity to work alongside inspirational tutors and young people from Kinetika Bloco, the band who led TeamGB in the Olympic Greatest Team Parade. The day finished with a performance to your family and friends.
