We had the first Croydon Bloco project this year and we had 54 young people join us, the biggest number yet! Not only that, it was a whole lot of fun.
The brass/woodwind section headed by Claude Deppa, ate through material and performed a solo song! The drum squad were sounding brilliant as usual and grooving away. Uncle Wade’s steel pan section were sounding slick too. Basically, they were sounding wicked!
They played:
Echo Funk, composed by our founder Mat Fox
Monkey Man by Toots and the Maytals
Homecoming by Dollar Brand
and Ek Se/Ekaya by Abdullah Ibrahim
Headed by MD Sam Blue, the project was three days of even more music than usual and a huge turnout for the end of project sharing.
Big thank you to our young leaders from our leadership course, who really supported the attendees and taught well. Thanks Ben, Keahnne, Millie, Phoebe, Rose, and Rushaun.
Whilst were on thank yous, we need to say a huge “thank you” to our funders for this project, Youth Music, who funded the project through Croydon Music and Arts. And another massive thank you to the Mayor of Croydon Mayor Bernadette Khan who came to watch and shared some wonderful and inspiring words.
Have a look at some of the great work these hard-working and talented young people did.
