At Bloco we love jamming together. During this new season of being apart we wanted to find a way to create music together whilst all staying safe in our own homes.
Our friend Tim Exile from Endlesss created an awesome app called Endlesss, a free lightning-fast collaborative music-making app and this looked just the right tool for us to give a try!
A group of us joined together via Zoom and then broke off into smaller groups to jam together. The leader of each group set up a jam link for each member to join.
Getting started with a jam on Endlesss was very straightforward to use. The first person started laying down some beats and then shared the loop on the jam. We then built on this to add some bass, vocals, notes and then had fun remixing them and sharing in real time.
Here you can see the structure of the jam – it might look a bit messy but this was really fun!
And this is a snippet of the jam!
Following the success of the first jam session then had a 2nd session where we tried adding our own instrument sounds. This was a bit more complicated due to the slight time lag but still good fun experimenting!
Our experience so far:
What we loved:
- It was super easy to get started
- Everyone that had an iOS device could participate regardless of musical ability as the app is great for all levels from beginner to pro
- The layout was very intuitive and easy to follow
- The range of different sounds and instruments within the app are great in the free version and look even more awesome in the paid one!
- To summarise: An innovative way of coming together and jamming with each other and breaks the barrier of just making music in person but also being able to build on people’s ideas by remixing and layering parts together
- The range of different sounds and instruments within the app are great in the free version and look even more awesome in the paid one!
Some improvements and thoughts
- Not all Bloco members have iOS devices so when Android is launched, we can have even greater participation
- Recording live sound was a bit awkward but with a bit more practice we might get better at that!
- A more detailed getting started guide might have helped us get to grips with some of the features quicker
Next Steps
- Endless have been hosting some live battles, so we are going to prepare for our own Bloco Lockdown Endlesss Battle – watch this space for more info!
- We will also be hosting an evening with Tim Exile soon where he will lead a jam session with us.
