Here’s our latest edition to add to KB’s – #TheLockdownStories. We asked Bloco family how they’re feeling being in doors 24-7? What they’ve been doing? And the pros and the cons of #TheLockdown life. Why? It’s good to share!

This edition is from Sam, flautist and saxophonist! Sam is passionate about music! Sam is really passionate about music and has been putting time in to developing his art – producing, playing and attending music sessions.

Here’s what Sam had been up to:

Name: Sam

Bloco section: Brass and Woodwind

What have you been up to during your lockdown? I have been trying to complete school work online, while keeping practice up. I’ve attended the zoom Bloco rehearsals, and had a couple of lessons. I have also loved the amazing masterclasses from Ruben and Dom, and look forward to learning circular breathing from Claude. I have been trying to keep active by going on runs and playing football with my brother. Finally, I have been composing, producing and arranging, as it’s fun!

How are you feeling? Looking forward to life resuming as normal again. At times I have felt a bit down, and overwhelmed by the amount of work being set by school, but it is great seeing friends on zoom or houseparty.

How do you feel about your music being off for now? It’s sad because it was a way of seeing friends and engaging in something fun and meaningful. I am missing all the groups I usually play in at school, as well as Bloco rehearsals and gigs. However, we can still practice and improve!

What are you finding difficult? Not having the same structure in my life. Before, going to school and seeing your friends used to inspire and motivate you to work and succeed. It is hard now not having the same contact with friends, or opportunities and structure.

One thing that would make anyone smile if they were feeling down right now: Go and watch our video about New Orleans. You can check out my latest instagram post (sam3gr), playing some jazz from Ruben’s masterclass. Listen to some Hot 8 Brass Band, or Louis Armstrong if you fancy some older tunes. If you want something calming then try Abusey Junction by Kokoroko.
