Happy Christmas…

I wanted to take a minute to wish you a very Happy Christmas from all of us at Kinetika Bloco.

I know this has been a tough year still. That the last few weeks have seen uncertainty and fear rise again. This year we suffered a big loss when the beautiful Mel Jenkins graduated from this earth. A loss that was felt throughout the Bloco family, and obviously immensely to her family Aneira, Pete and Josh. In the middle of Summer School myself and Shay and some of the drum squad all went down with Covid.  There have been moments when we have had to postpone, cancel or limit activity at the last minute.

But despite the difficulties, we want to remember the great times that we have had in 2021 and allow them to spur us on with hope into 2022. We have seen some incredible highlights this year, because of the amazing young people and team that make up Kinetika Bloco. Despite the difficulties everyone has pushed on through, given more, supported and encouraged one another. They’ve brought their creativity and talent to the table and helped us grow.

This year we played at the Brits, had our first radio show feature, built a relationship with a brand, worked regularly in more schools than ever before. We’ve started “baby bloco” with Abacus nursery’s, released our first ever album. We’ve also continued our most important work, seeing many young people return to our After School Clubs and holiday activity. It has been a great year!

In the beautiful words of Ruben Fox on the Legacy album notes, this year really has shown that “The taller we grow, the further our roots deepen. As seasons change, our leaves rise and fall. Steadily moving upwards, each year marks a new ring as we together grow our LEGACY.”

So a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has helped us on the journey this year. We enter 2022 hopeful and expectant that we’ll grow taller in our achievements as the roots of our joy, love and togetherness go deeper!
