Get Creative is a celebration of the world-class arts, culture and creativity that happens every day across the UK and we were the Creative Champions selected to launch the year long campaign to a packed room of arts leaders and celebrities last week.
We are really excited to be starting Croydon Bloco workshops again this winter. In partnership with Croydon Youth Arts and funded by Sound Connections Shayanna and a team of Bloco Leaders will be leading workshops every Thursday from 22nd January in Fairfield Halls in Croydon leading to a performance.
This year at Summer School we celebrated 50 years of Notting Hill Carnival with Playing for Real: On the Road. The music and dance was created by our professional team (Ruben Fox, Andy Grappy, Claude Deppa, Mark Kavuma, Sam Agard, Shayanna Dyer-Harris, Leon Hazlewood, Leila McMillan, Nicholai La Barrie and Dave from Cov!) and young Bloco Leaders over 10 days at the Southbank Centre with 152 young people aged 14-25 from London.
We are missing the sun so thought we'd look back to our fun day at Notting Hill Carnival back in August. We had a great time celebrating our take on 50 years of Notting Hill Carnival - Playing for Real: on the Road. We had over 70 young people on the road with our friends from Coventry, Drumestra, joining us for the day. We made it our early so that our live music could be heard before any of the trucks hit the road and played for 4 hours!
We also made it on to lots of the news coverage and into the Guardian!
We had a great day out at Kings Cross yesterday. We participated in Give a Gig with Youth Music as we performed through St Pancras Station and in Granary Square. 60 young people from the Kinetika Bloco joined a few new faces who participated in a workshop with us on Monday. Big thanks to Argent who are the people responsible for making it all happen and who have been planning, managing and delivering the regeneration of Kings Cross since 2001.
